JUST ADD INK #87 COLOUR CHALLENGE

It is with a heavy heart that I relinquish my spot as a Guest Designer for Just Add Ink, I must say!  I've had a ball being part of the team for the past 5 weeks .... thank you, my JAI friends, for the honour.

My last submission for this month is based on this GORGEOUS colour scheme that Nikki has come up with:

Love, love, love these colours!!  Crumb Cake is my "go to" neutral, and I love all of the new In Colors that Stampin' Up! has introduced to our range.  Playing with these colours gave me the opportunity to use some of the adorable Designer Printed Brads that are new to us .... SO cute!!

Here's my card, that used a few new products:

Stamps: Flower Fancy, Happiest Birthday Wishes
Card: Crumb Cake, Pool Party, Whisper White, Watercolour Paper
Ink: Versamark inkpad, Crumb Cake, Pool Party and Calypso Coral stampin' pads
Other: Aquapainter, White embossing powder, Beautiful Wings embosslits, Basic Pearls, Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch, Designer Printed Brads (Pool Party), Paper-Piercing tool, sponge dauber

INKSPIRATIONS COLOUR CHALLENGE #88 : TINY SCALLOP SQUARE CARD

This week's bright colour combo at Inkspirations had me a little stumped at first, but I soldiered on!

One of the several new stamp sets I HAD to have as soon as the new Stampin' Up! catalogue was released, is the super-cute "Best of Everything".  Because I'd not yet shown it love, I decided this was the perfect occasion.

I used my Scallop Squares Duo die to cut a little card out of Pacific Point cardstock.  I inked up the Buttons & Blossoms jumbo wheel in Pacific Point ink, and rolled that across the card front.  The little birds were inked with markers, and the button stamp was inked in Pumpkin Pie ink, and stamped off once before being used to decorate the top of the main panel.  It's a simple little card, but pretty cute, I think!  Take a look:

Bearing in mind that I cut this with the larger of the two Scallop Squares on the die, check out how small it is when next to a regular-sized card.  So sweet!

Stamps: Best of Everything, Buttons & Blossoms jumbo Stampin' Around wheel
Card: Pacific Point, Melon Mambo, Whisper White
Ink: Pacific Point stampin' pad and marker, Pumpkin Pie stampin' pad and marker
Other: Scallop Squares Duo Bigz die, Word Window punch, Melon Mambo Pompom Trim (retired), stampin' dimensionals, Sticky Strip

CTD #160 : STAMPIN' UP!'S PRECIOUS BUTTERFLIES

It has been a while since I've played along with the challenges at The Color Throwdown, so I was determined to remedy that this week!

Here is the gorgeous colour combination put forward for us to use on a papercraft project:

I have made a card for a lovely friend who I'll be meeting for lunch tomorrow.  Of course I left it until late in the day to photograph (forward planning is sadly lacking in my little world sometimes!!), so please forgive the dark photo.  I had a lovely time incorporating polka dots and butterflies on this card.

Stamps: Precious Butterflies
Card: Very Vanilla, Early Espresso, Regal Rose textured
DSP: Regal Rose Patterns Designer Series Paper
Ink:  Regal Rose stampin' pad and marker, Early Espresso stampin' pad and marker, Versamark inkpad
Other: Beautiful Wings embosslits die, Very Vanilla satin ribbon, Chantilly Crochet trim, Basic Pearls, Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder, XL Oval punch, Decorative Label punch, brad (not SU!), paper snips, sponge daubers

BLOG HOP - NEW STAMPIN' UP! PRODUCTS

I'm taking part today in a blog hop with friends, to share some papercraft projects we've created with products from the new Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalogue.  There are 9 of us in total; please visit all of our blogs, and leave a bit of comment love.  Hopefully you'll be inspired by all the different ideas we're sharing with you.  You may have come from Ros Davidson's blog, to start, but if not you can visit her after doing the rounds!  Just click on the link at the end of each blog post, to go on to the next person.

There are SO many new products that I've fallen in love with, in this catalogue.  I decided to focus my projects on two stamp sets, to show you how differently they can be used.  "Delicate Doilies" was a must-have set for me, as was "Tagtastic" - one of the new hostess sets.  This is a set that can be earnt by spending $300 or more, or holding a home workshop with sales of $300 or more.  (Believe me, it's not hard to spend over $300 with this catalogue!!)

My first card is in neutral tones, which I love to work with.   I've enjoyed playing with several new products, to make this card!  I made the shabby bow by wetting some Crumb Cake seam binding with Champagne Shimmer Mist (shimmer paint mixed with Isocol, in a spray bottle).  I scrunched the ribbon, and dried it with my heat gun, before creating the bow.

Stamps: Delicate Doilies, Tagtastic
Card: Confetti White, Crumb Cake
Ink: Crumb Cake, Early Espresso and Soft Suede stampin' pads, Whisper White craft stampin' pad
Other: Crumb Cake seam binding, 2 1/2" Circle Punch, Dotted Scallop Ribbon border punch, Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer punch, Champagne shimmer mist, Antique Brads, Glimmer Brads basics, sponge dauber, mini glue dots

The colour inspiration for my next card came from the Flirtatious Specialty Designer Series Papers in our new catalogue.  I've chosen to work with Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo ..... and my long-neglected Stampin' Pastels (chalks) have been shown some love.

I stamped the large doily randomly, on Whisper White card, using Whisper White craft ink.  This is a slow-drying, juicy, ink that is perfect for applying colour with Stampin' Pastels and sponge daubers.

Stamps: Delicate Doilies, Tagtastic
Card: Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Melon Mambo
Ink: Whisper White craft stampin' pad, Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie stampin' pads
Other: Stampin' Pastels, sponge daubers, Whisper White Organza ribbon, Fleurettes II, Ice Cream Parlor button, Circles #2 die, 1 3/4" circle punch, white thread, mini glue dots

For my third project, I decided I wanted to use the new Just Add Cake Designer Series Paper.  I chose the lined sheet (just like note paper), and used Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy and Pool Party inks to stamp doilies all over the paper.  I've ended up using only a couple of small 7.5cm squares of the stamped paper, to decorate a Fancy Favor box.  Here is the finished product, stuffed with tissue paper, just waiting for the addition of some jewellery, chocolate, or some such delicious gift:

Here is a closer view of the front of the box.  I adhered a stamped panel (without the sentiment, ribbon and rhinestones) to the back of the box, too.

Stamps: Delicate Doilies, Tagtastic, Delightful Decorations
Card: Not Quite Navy, Whisper White
DSP: Just Add Cake Designer Series Paper
Ink: Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Pool Party and Basic Gray stampin' pads
Other: Curly Label punch, sponge daubers, Basic Rhinestones, Whisper White taffeta ribbon, Fancy Favor die, Big Shot, mini glue dots

I could go on and on, because the possibilities with these stamp sets really are endless, but I will stop now!  I hope I've inspired you to play with these stamp sets.  I had a lot of fun making these projects.

The next stop on the blog hop is Alisha Watson's blog.  Alisha's creativity is sure to inspire you - it always inspires me!  Thanks for your visit today.

SC008/11 : LANGUAGE OF FRIENDSHIP

This week's challenge at Sunny Challenges and Creations, is to use the following sketch, and specific colours (Marina Mist, Cajun Craze and Crumb Cake), on a card or scrapbook page.

One of my many new stamp sets that hadn't seen ink is "Language of Friendship".  It is a beautiful set, that co-ordinates with the Bird Builder punch, and Boho Blossoms punch.  Gotta love stamps that have complementary punches!

I had some time in my craft room last night, after preparing for this weekend's Christmas card class, and came up with a simple card (that I think is really quite sweet).  I stamped the flowers on the base card in Crumb cake ink, and sponged the edges.  I then stamped the flowers in Marina Mist ink on Whisper White card, punched them out using the Boho Blossoms punch, and adhered them to a panel of Crumb Cake card.  I put this card inside my Square Lattice embossing folder, and through the Big Shot, to creat the inlaid embossed panel.  The band across the middle of the card is two punched borders, one stacked above the other.

Stamps: Language of Friendship, Happiest Birthday Wishes
Card: Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Cajun Craze
Ink: Crumb Cake, Marina Mist and Cajun Craze stampin' pads
Other: Marina Mist 1/4" grosgrain ribbon, Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch, Bird Builder punch, Boho Blossoms punch, white gel pen, sponge dauber

HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY WISHES FOR MY BOY

Ethan, my baby (even though he HATES me calling him that!) is 11 today.  He's almost as tall as his mother, but not too grown up for me to steal lots of cuddles ... even if his arms aren't involved.

The birthday boy requested a card that was "Crumb Cake, White and Blue".  "Blue" is pretty general, when it comes to Stampin' Up! colours, and I'm not sure if these are the blues Ethan had in mind, but here's the card I made for him.  The new hostess stamp set called Happiest Birthday Wishes features prominently - LOVE this set.

Here's a close-up of the sentiment.  Four Frames is one of my FAVOURITE new stamp sets; it can be customised in so many ways.  I stamped off some stars in Crumb Cake, overstamped the sentiment from Happiest Birthday Wishes, then used my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig to position the frame over the top.  I punched it out with the Decorative Label punch, sponged the edges, and mounted it with Stampin' Dimensionals.  Cool, yes?

Stamps: Extreme Elements, Happiest Birthday Wishes, Four Frames, Pennant Parade
Card: Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise textured
DSP: Crumb Cake Patterns Designer Series Paper, Good Morning Sunshine (retired)
Ink: Crumb Cake and Tempting Turquoise stampin' pads, Pacific Point stampin' pad and marker
Other: Mat Pack and Paper Piercing Tool, Decorative Label punch, Cupcake Builder punch, Petite Pennants Builder punch, Stripes embossing folder, sponge dauber

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my little man!!  Thanks to Renee Van Stralen for the idea for this card :)

STAMPIN' UP!'S "BIG TOP BIRTHDAY" PAPERS

The new "Big Top Birthday" Designer Series Papers, from Stampin' Up!, are a surprise favourite of mine.  I love the bold, bright colours, and gorgeous designs.  This is really quite an admission from someone who is not a circus fan, and has a downright dislike for clowns!!

Some of the papers have large designs, that would be great for scrapbooking.  Since I'm not a scrapbooker, I thought I'd show you how easy it is to make cards with little effort - letting the paper do all the work.  I was inspired by some cards made by my friend Tina.  By adding a few little embellishments, and a stamped sentiment, I was able to create some pretty cute and happy cards in next-to no time.

Stamps: Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Card: Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White
DSP: Big Top Birthday Designer Series Paper
Ink: Tempting Turquoise stampin' pad
Other: Word Window punch, Modern Label punch, Real Red satin ribbon, Basic Rhinestones, mini glue dots

DSP: Big Top Birthday Designer Series Paper

Stamps: Happiest Birthday Wishes

Ink: Tempting Turquoise stampin' pad

BLACK AND WHITE FAREWELL CARD

One of Ethan's mates from school is about to return to New Zealand to live, and Ethan asked me to make a farewell card.  My brief was to use black and white.

It's a simple card, but I love it, and hope the young man (who will be sorely missed) does too.  I've used Stampin' Up!'s new silver mini brads on this card, and they are FABULOUS - they're not much bigger than pin heads, and are great, low-profile, embellishments for cards.  I can see I'll be using lots of these!

Stamps: Extreme Elements, For My Family
Card: Basic Black and Whisper White
Ink: Basic Black stampin' pad
Other: Stripes embossing folder, Timeless Type Alphabet sizzlits dies, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Silver Mini Brads, Mat Pack and Paper Piercing tool, Tombow multi liquid glue

WELL WORN, PERFECTLY PENNED MALE CARD

A friend of ours, who doesn't visit my blog (as far as I know!), is about to celebrate a birthday.  It's a very special day on our calendar, as our second son was born on the same day (albeit some 34 years after Darren was).

I decided to cut into my brand new pack of Stampin' Up!'s "Well Worn" papers, and put some ink on my new "Perfectly Penned" stamp set.

In hindsight, I should've done a bit more tearing, to reveal larger sections of the bottom layer of paper, but, for a first attempt at playing with these papers, I'm not unhappy with how the card turned out.

Stamps: Extreme Elements, Perfectly Penned, Texture jumbo wheel
Card: Early Espresso, Naturals Ivory
DSP: Well Worn and Cajun Craze Patterns Designer Series Papers
Ink: Early Espresso stampin' pad and marker, Soft Suede and Not Quite Navy stampin' pads
Other: Regals brads, sponge daubers, Mat Pack and Paper Piercing tool, edge distressing tool

JAI #85 : JUST ADD ..... BABY

This week over at Just Add Ink, my sweet friend Patrice has set a "baby" challenge.

I was "tickled pink" (pardon the pun) with the very cute little birthday card I received from my friend Chris.  She inspired me to use my Scallop Envelope die, that doesn't often see the light of day.  I am loving all the possibilities that this style of card opens up.  The Scallop Envelope is the perfect size to adorn the front of a 10cm x 10cm card.  Here's what I came up with .... and I had a ball making it!

.... and a close-up of the subtly stamped background:

Stamps: Baby Bundle, A to Z, Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Card: Crumb Cake, Pretty in Pink smooth & textured, Confetti White, Wisteria Wonder
DSP: Flirtatious Specialty Designer Series Paper
Ink: Crumb Cake and Wisteria Wonder stampin' pads, Pretty in Pink stampin' pad and marker
Other: Scallop Envelope die, Heart to Heart punch, Word Window punch, paper snips, sponge daubers, blender pen, stampin' dimensionals, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Neutrals brad

STAMPIN' UP!'S PRECIOUS BUTTERFLIES

In my opinion, a girl cannot have too many butterfly stamps.  For this reason, I just had to have Stampin' Up!'s new "Precious Butterflies" stamp set (it's a 'hostess' set that you can earn with a $300 order, or workshop)!

Here's the first card I made with this set, using the new coloured embossing powders in Melon Mambo and Wild Wasabi.  The frame for my sentiment is from another fabulous hostess set, Tagtastic.

Stamps: Precious Butterflies, Tagtastic, Texture jumbo wheel
Card: Crumb Cake, Whisper White
DSP: Wild Wasabi Patterns Designer Series Paper
Ink: Crumb Cake, Wild Wasabi and Basic Black stampin' pads, Versamark inkpad
Other: Melon Mambo and Wild Wasabi embossing powders, Stamp-a-ma-jig, Top Note die, Curly Label punch, 3/4" circle punch, sponge daubers, Basic Rhinestone

I then went for a completely different look, to incorporate a doily from the Flirtatious Designer Series Paper pack.  I chose Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie as my feature colours.  It's hard to see in the photo, but just above the black panel, I've stamped the circle of butterflies in Versamark ink (perhaps I should've used Melon Mambo.  Ah well, I think the card's plenty bright enough as it is!).

Stamps: Precious Butterflies, Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Card: Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Basic Black
DSP: Flirtatious Specialty Designer Series Paper
Ink: Versamark inkpad, Basic Black stampin' pad, Melon Mambo stampin' pad and marker, Pumpkin Pie stampin' pad
Other: Beautiful Wings embosslits die, Ribbon Lace border punch, Basic Rhinestones, 1 3/4" circle punch, Circles #2 die, 3/4" circle punch, Stamp-a-ma-jig, sponge dauber

I really like the first card.  The second, not so much.  Still, I'm having fun playing with my new goodies, and I will have plenty more to share with you in coming days and weeks!

JUST ADD INK #84 ..... WHITE WITH ONE

This week's challenge over at Just Add Ink is not actually coffee-related!  Mae has set this week's challenge, to use white, plus one other colour.  This really was a challenge for me, because I don't tend to incorporate a lot of 'white space' (literally or otherwise) on my cards.

I decided to use one of Stampin' Up!'s note cards ... a smaller, less intimidating, canvas to work with!   I'm pretty happy with the end result, that is clean, with a pop of colour thanks to Concord Crush, and that showcases the gorgeous new Lace Ribbon Border punch from Stampin' Up!

Thanks, as always, must go to the supremely talented, lovely, Joanne Leddy, for teaching me how to make the flowers I love to incorporate on my cards!

Stamps: Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Card: Whisper White, Note Card from SU!, Concord Crush
DSP: Concord Crush Patterns Designer Series Paper
Ink: Concord Crush stampin' pad
Other: Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder, Word Window punch, Beautiful Wings embosslits die, Fancy Flower punch, 5-Petal Flower punch, Boho Blossoms punch, Neutrals brad, Lace Ribbon Border punch

SC 006/11 : STAMPIN' AROUND WHEELS

This week at Sunny Challenges & Creations, the challenge is to use Stampin' Up! wheels on a project that is based around this sketch:

When I checked out my collection of Stampin' Around wheels, I was surprised to find how few I have left, after the retirement of so many with the introduction of our new catalogue.

I settled on using the gorgeous Very Vintage jumbo Stampin' Around wheel, inked in Chocolate Chip on Very Vanilla card.  Using a blender pen and Calypso Coral inkpad, I coloured the flower and butterfly.  Deciding it looked a bit stark, I then sponged Crumb Cake ink all over the main panel.  I added flecks of Chocolate Chip and Calypso Coral ink, using my Color Spritzer tool, and finished it by sponging the edges in Chocolate Chip ink.

I've had to move around a couple of elements on the sketch; due to the placement of the butterfly image, I couldn't place my sentiment in that spot.

Here's the finished product:

Stamps: Very Vintage jumbo wheel, Just Believe
Card: Very Vanilla, Calypso Coral
Ink: Chocolate Chip stampin' pad and marker, Calypso Coral stampin' pad and marker, Crumb Cake stampin' pad
Other: Chocolate Chip Scallop Dots ribbon, Eyelet Border punch, Lots of Tags sizzlits die, sponge daubers, Basic Pearls, blender pen, Color Spritzer tool, mini glue dots, paper snips (to distress the cardstock edge)

WISTERIA WONDER BUTTERFLY

I opened my new packet of Stampin' Up!'s On Board Merry Medley chipboard, to have a play, because colouring chipboard is not something I've done much of.  I chose a butterfly shape, then sponged it with Whisper White ink and a sponge dauber.  After a generous blast of heat from my heat gun, it dried beautifully and was ready to be turned purple!  I've sponged Wisteria Wonder ink, using my stampin' pad and sponge dauber, over the surface.  I then stamped, using Concord Crush, the gorgeous delicate image from Stampin' Up!'s "Always Elegant" set.

I repeated the same stamped image all over the base card (using Versamark), and have kept the card simple, to let the patterns of the stamp and paper do the talking.  This card is for a lovely friend who did something very thoughtful for me yesterday.

Stamps: Always Elegant, Short & Sweet
Card: Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White
DSP: Flirtatious Designer Series Paper
Ink: Wisteria Wonder and Concord Crush stampin' pads, Whisper White craft stampin' pad, Versamark inkpad
Other: On Board Merry Medley, Decorative Label punch, Basic Pearls, sponge daubers

STAMPIN' UP!'S BEAU CHATEAU BEAUTIES

In our brand new Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalogue (it's in my sidebar - just click on the image to check it out!), there is a gorgeous collection of co-ordinating products called the Beau Chateau suite.  Think French Provincial, vintage, nostalgic.  I have made a couple of cards using some of the Beau Chateau Designer Series Paper.

This first card has a lot of texture.  I adhered the panel of DSP to some Soft Suede cardstock, then ran the two layers through my Big Shot (die-cutting and embossing machine) inside the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder.  I love the resulting rich, brocade look to it.  The scalloped circle is punched from another of the pieces of paper in this collection - beautiful, don't you think?

Stamps: Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Card: Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Pink Pirouette, Very Vanilla
DSP: Beau Chateau Designer Series Paper
Ink: Soft Suede and Pink Pirouette stampin' pads
Other: Word Window punch, Modern Label punch, 1 3/4" Scallop Circle punch, Designer Frames embossing folder, Victoria crochet trim, Basic Pearls, sponge daubers, Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder, mini glue dots, paper snips

My second card uses as its focal point the second embossing folder in the new Designer Frames set.  LOVE these little folders; they're fast becoming a favourite new toy.  The floral paper, punched out with the XL Oval punch, fits perfectly inside the oval frame - love that!

..... and a close-up of my favourite part of this card:

Stamps: Tiny Tags, Vintage Vogue
Card: Very Vanilla, Soft Suede, Pink Pirouette
DSP: Beau Chateau Designer Series Papers
Ink: Soft Suede, Pink Pirouette, Crumb Cake and Marina Mist stampin' pads
Other: Jewelry Tag punch, Designer Frames embossing folder, Big Shot, XL Oval punch, Pretty in Pink brad, Crumb Cake seam binding, sponge dauber, paper snips (to cut out the oval, and distress the cardstock)

21st BIRTHDAY CARD

Jack (my eldest) has gone to a friend's 21st birthday party tonight, looking rather sharp!  The dress code for the evening is "cocktail black with a touch of red".  I've used this theme for the birthday girl's card, coming up with a simple but elegant creation thanks to Stampin' Up!'s fabulous products!!  I have used no stamps or inks at all on this card, it was very quick to make, and I love the end result.

Card: Basic Black, Whisper White smooth & textured, Cherry Cobbler
Other: Timeless Type Junior Alphabet sizzlits die, Big Shot, Fancy Flower punch, 5 Petal Flower punch, Boho Blossoms punch, metallic brad, Basic Rhinestone, Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder, Cherry Cobbler seam binding, Sticky Strip, Tombow Multi liquid glue

JUST ADD INK #83 - A SKETCH, AND HAPPY NEWS

I am thrilled to say that I'm a Guest Designer for Just Add Ink for the month of September.   I've been a flag-waving fan and follower of this wonderful challenge site since its inception, and try to take part in the challenges every week.  Some of my loveliest 'stampy' friends are already on the Design Team, and it is a real honour to join them for the next 5 weeks.  Thanks, girls, for inviting me to join in the fun in a slightly more 'official' capacity!

This week Bron has come up with the following sketch:

I have a bit of a tendency to take sketches VERY literally (rather than using them as a starting point), and this week is no exception!  I've made a card that I think has a distinctly 'folksy' sort of country/naive feel (does that make sense?!).

Stamps: Just Believe, Sweet Stitches stampin' around wheel
Card: Soft Suede, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Baja Breeze
DSP: Baja Breeze Patterns Designer Series Paper
Ink: Soft Suede, Cherry Cobbler, and Baja Breeze stampin' pads, Crumb Cake stampin' pad and marker
Other: Boho Blossoms punch, Circles #2 die, 1 3/4" circle punch, 2 3/8" Scallop Circle punch, Word Window punch, Modern Label punch, Crimper, Sweet Buttons embosslits, Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder, Square Lattice embossing folder, sponge daubers, Mat Pack and Paper Piercing tool, Kraft corduroy buttons (retired)
